Deputies from the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office were called on May 13 to Snow Hill High School, where there was an isolated fight between two students that rapidly escalated, prompting an investigation by a school administrator.

When the administrator probed the incident, investigators say that one of the students became disorderly, prompting a call to the School Resource Officer assigned to the building, who, upon arrival, found the student actively assaulting the educator.

The deputy was able to intervene, according to a spokesperson from the sheriff's office, though he was also assaulted before the student could be taken into custody.

According to the agency, the details of the fight will be provided to the Department of Juvenile Services, which will then determine what discipline is on deck.

"As this is an active investigation and to protect the identities of those involved there will be no further information released," officials said.
